Panthers News · UPDATED: COVID-19 Sport Updates

Spring Season Update – in regard to the MPSSAA release, additional guidance regarding schedules and potential ramifications and adjustments will be communicated in the coming weeks.  There are many aspects that will need to be addressed, including spring break (we are awaiting confirmation on the impact of the closure on spring break) and the impact of restrictions on mass gatherings over 250 individuals.

MPSSAA Statement Regarding Interscholastic Athletics 3.13.20

Closure Clarifications – as communicated prior, all athletic practices, meetings, scrimmages, and contests are cancelled during the closure of schools.  This also includes banquets and any form of team gatherings.  No captain, parent/guardian or student-led practices are allowed and MCPS facilities are closed, per the Community Use of Public Facilities.  Please remember that schools are closed throughout the state (and a lot of the country) to help prevent/slow the spread of COVID-19 through gatherings of groups of people.  Furthermore, we need to ensure that all teams comply with all MCPS and MPSSAA rules and regulations.  Coaches are encouraged to provide drills, leadership/character activities, and strength and conditioning workouts that their student-athletes may utilize at home to stay conditioned and physically/mentally prepared to perform.

MCPS and across the MPSSAA are engaged in ongoing dialogue about the impact of the closure and COVID-19 on the interscholastic athletics program.  We will continue to provide updates real-time.  Similar to previous communications, please refer to the MCPS website for the latest information.  Any new information and/or modifications to program operations will be communicated systemwide and available on the school and county website.

The coaches and athletic department will provide everyone updates as we get them from MCPS. We will also post important information on this website and on Twitter at @PBHS_Sports. Thank you as always for your support of our athletic program. If you have any questions, please contact me at
